| I just watched “Cold Mountain,” and, as the film rewound, thought about how lucky we are that life is much more humane today- then returned home to read in the news (as if I had to read to know) that more soldiers were killed in Iraq this afternoon. I don’t understand why, after thousands of years of men fighting men, why we have not yet perfected the art of living so that men do not have to die in war. Why can “civilized” people not solve problems through words, create peace through diplomacy? Some may call this notion idealistic, but it is a matter arduous to my heart. | | |
